| Recent Team News May 25, 2009 - Congrats to the MVP Gold 16-1s on their hard-fought 2nd place finish in the Bronze Division at the East Coast Championships! The team pushed through 22 sets over the course of the 3-day tournament, improving each day to win silver! Kudos to the boys for going all-out to medal at the 2009 ECC! May 25, 2009 - MVP14-1 are the East Coast Champions! The entire team played with tremendous determination over the 3-day tournament. They ran a balanced attacking offense including tough serving, a strong defense with excellent blocking and superb floor defense, and near perfect passing. Brilliant support from the specialty players helped advanced the team to the Gold bracket, which makes the win in the Finals the result of hard work and dedication of every team member over the season! April 26, 2009 - Congratulations to the entire program for a great showing at the 2009 CHRVA boys regionals! The 13's, 14's, 17's, and 18's placed first and the 16's came in second! March 18, 2009 - Special congratulations to Robert Huang, Brendan Chang, Aaron Russell, Peter Russell and Dainis Berzins! All five were selected again to participate in the USA Volleyball High Performance program. March 8th, 2009- Coach Phil's challenge for the MVP Gold 16's: Win U-Turn Sports Academy tournament March 8th in Richmond,VA... or else! Despite a shaky start in pool play, the team worked together to improve their court play and tied for 1st place with Cary YMCA. In the final one-game to 25 winner takes all, the boys easily defeated Cary! Congrats to the MVP 16's on their 2nd tournament win! February 22nd, 2009 - MVP 14-1 finished third out of fourteen 14's teams at the Nittany 2 National Qualifer in York, PA this past weekend. By doing so, they earned an Open division bid for Nationals in Atlanta. They played solidly as a team, with consistent and strong serving and attacking, and amazing floor defense. In the exciting 3rd place match, they came from behind in the second set (2-024) to beat Seven cities (27-25) in two sets. The team decided to decline the bid and play in the Club division at Nationals. January 19th, 2009- MVP White (17-1) won the 2009 Rochester Can Am Tournament this past weekend and earned an Open bid for Nationals in Atlanta this summer. They did not drop a set until the first game of the final. Yikes! Head Coach paniked but the team did not and overcame the slow start with brilliant support frmo the bench to take the title and finish with a 18-1 record. January 3rd, 2009 - The MVP 14s rang in the New Year with a 2nd place finish at the York, PA tournament. They placed 2nd in pool play and competed brilliantly on their way into the finals where they lost in three. The final set was a heart-pounding nail-bitter with our boys narrowly losing 17-19 to PJRVB 14 Black. So it's silver for now... perhaps gold the next time out! December 14th, 2008 - It was a very successful start for the MVP Gold (16-1) team! The boys took first place at the Hatboro, PA tournament. The team only lost one game during pool play and went three sets in the final to win! MVP Gold went for the gold and got it! Congratulations to the U16's! May 28, 2008 - Congratulations to the MVP Red (18-1) and MVP 12-1 teams for winning their divisions at the 2008 Boys East Coast Championships!! Also noteworthy is the MVP 18-1 team has now qualified for the Open division two years in a row. March 28, 2008 - Special congratulations to Robert Huang, Brendan Chang, Aaron Russell, Peter Russell, Ryan Mullsteff and Mik Berzins! All six were selected to participate in the USA Volleyball High Performance program. Robert, Brendan, and Aaron were selected to the National/A1 team; Peter, Ryan, and Mik were selected to the A2 team! March 26, 2008 - Gazette article about Maryland Volleyball Program. About Us The Maryland Volleyball Program (MVP) provides opportunities for boys to compete in USA Volleyball Junior Olympic competition at a local, regional, and national level. MVP was first established in 1986 and has competed in every JOV National Championship since 1987. We are dedicated to providing quality training beyond what is available through the school systems, and competition at a local, regional, and national level. This competitive athletic experience can enhance social development, contribute to mental and physical health, and teach the values of teamwork, responsibility, self discipline, and self motivation. It is our
sincere desire to provide a solid foundation of fundamentals to enable
participants to develop, not only as players, but also as persons.
Given this base, we hope that these youths will continue playing well
beyond their Junior Olympic years, for volleyball is truly a lifetime
sport. |
